1、accident / incident
accident：突發(fā)性的，一般為不幸事件，即“事故”。
traffic accident 交通事故
incident：小的變數(shù)、插曲，小事件，沒accident那么嚴(yán)重。
an international incident 一次國際事件
2、continuous/continual
continuous：持續(xù)不斷的，且可以做表語和定語
continuous pain 持續(xù)的'疼痛(疼痛一直有)
continual：中間有間隔的重復(fù)，只能做定語
continual improvements in technology 技術(shù)上的不斷進(jìn)步(進(jìn)步是間隔性的)
3、considerate/considerable
considerate：體貼的，考慮周到的`
Be a good neighbor， be considerate of those living around you。
做一個(gè)好鄰居，體諒周圍的人。
considerable：相當(dāng)大的，值得尊敬的，重要的
We took a considerable length of time to decide。
我們花了好長時(shí)間才決定。
4、electric/electrical
electric：電的，用電的，帶電的，指任何電動(dòng)的或發(fā)電的裝置，被修飾的物體本身可帶電。
electric light 電燈
Please connect the two electric wires。
請(qǐng)將這兩根電線接起來。
electrical：電的，與電有關(guān)的.，電氣科學(xué)的，指與電有關(guān)的事物，被修飾的詞本身并不能帶電。
electrical engineer 電氣工程師
All the electrical work was done by my younger brother。
所有的電工活都由弟弟來干。
He buried himself in an electrical book。
他埋頭讀一本電學(xué)方面的書。
5、ensure/insure
表示保證的意思，兩者通用，英國人愛用ensure，美國人愛用insure。
Our precautions ensured/insured our safety。
預(yù)防措施保證了我們的.安全。
表示保險(xiǎn)的意思，用insure。
After signing a contract with a professional baseball team， Jack decided to insure his pitching arm for $1 million。
和職業(yè)棒球隊(duì)簽約后，杰克決定為他投球的手臂投保100萬美元。
6、historic/historical
historic：歷史上著名的，具有歷史意義的。強(qiáng)調(diào)的'是事件本身具有的重大意義。
historic sites 歷史遺跡
historical：歷史上的，有關(guān)歷史的。強(qiáng)調(diào)某個(gè)事件曾經(jīng)的的確確發(fā)生過。
historical figures 歷史人物
7、lie/lay
lie：說謊;躺，位于。
作說謊的意思：過去式，過去分詞，現(xiàn)在分詞分別是：lied， lied， lying
作躺，位于的意思：過去式，過去分詞，現(xiàn)在分詞分別是：lay， lain， lying
He lay under a tree to sleep。
他躺在樹下休息。
lay：放，擱;下蛋。過去式，過去分詞，現(xiàn)在分詞分別是：laid， laid， laying
The dog laid its ears back。
小狗把耳朵耷拉下來。
8、relation/relationship
relation有以下幾個(gè)意思
指最寬泛意義上的關(guān)系時(shí)，relation和relationship同義。
the relation/relationship between smoking and heart disease.
吸煙和心臟病之間的`關(guān)系
親戚。同義詞：relative。
She was a distant relation of my wife。
她是我老婆的遠(yuǎn)房親戚。
