　　According to the latest statistics from the China Meteorological Administration, about one-fourth of the temperature rise caused by climate warming can be blamed on the "urban heat island effect." Other phenomena resulting from urbanization include dry islands, wet islands, dark islands and rain islands in cities.

　　根據(jù)中國氣象局的最新統(tǒng)計，在氣候變化導(dǎo)致的.氣溫上升中，大約有1/4是由城市熱島效應(yīng)導(dǎo)致的。城市化導(dǎo)致的其它現(xiàn)象包括干島效應(yīng)、濕島效應(yīng)、混濁島效應(yīng)和雨島效應(yīng)。

　　文中的urban heat island effect就是指“城市熱島效應(yīng)”，也稱為tropical island effect，指的是城市氣溫明顯高于外圍郊區(qū)的現(xiàn)象。城市人口集中，工業(yè)發(fā)達(dá)，交通擁塞，大氣污染嚴(yán)重，建筑密集等等都是形成這一現(xiàn)象的原因。在這一現(xiàn)象下，城市中更容易出現(xiàn)convective weather(對流天氣)。

　　除了urban heat island effect，城市化的發(fā)展還使城市成為了dry islands(干島，降水偏少的城區(qū))、wet islands(濕島，降水偏多的城區(qū))、dark islands(混濁島，城市大氣混濁度高于郊區(qū))以及rain islands(雨島，暴雨最大強度的落點位于市區(qū)及其下風(fēng)方向)，統(tǒng)稱為“五島效應(yīng)”。
